How You Can Help

If you are interested in the oral traditions, customs or folklore of your local area or the broader county, why not volunteer with Cuimhneamh an Chláir and participate in one of the largest public history projects in the county’s history. We need volunteers that can help with the collections of information, documentation, archiving and general promotion. We also need volunteers to help with fundraising and the organisation of our many public events. You can volunteer to do any of the following:

  • Become a Cuairteoir (Limited to specific recruitment campaigns)
  • Distributing questionnaires, flyers and other promotional material
  • Locating historical materials relevant to our collection programme
  • Carrying out library and archive research
  • Assisting in administrative work and cataloguing
  • Creating awareness of Cuimhneamh an Chláir in your locality

How to contribute?

Do you have recordings or material relevant to our project?

Since our formation, a number of individul folklore collectors have donated their collections to the Cuimhneamh an Chláir archive.   We are indepted to these individuals who we see as true folklore collectors, those willing to share their collected material with the people of Clare.  In addition to carrying out interviews across county Clare, we are also building up a collection of documents, photographs and recordings relating to the social history of county Clare that will help in future outreach and education projects. We are also interested in speaking with individuals who may have recordings conducted over the last number of decades. All items will be returned to their owners. We are developing a digital archive, so you do not necessarily have to donate your material. We are happy to take items on loan for a short time, digitise them and then return them to you. In special circumstances, where items are too fragile to transport, a member of our team can arrange to digitise the material in your home. If you have any material like this, and you would like it to be included or you are interested in volunteering, please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
